Five stories below ground, there is a windowless world with seven holding cells, devoid of any circulating air. It is a solid structure lined with white walls; its floors and furniture are set in black. Christened “The Tomb” by family members of its detainees, it is a jail run by the National Bolivarian Intelligence Service (officials raided her house looking ), the office in charge of assuring peace and public order in Venezuela.
Two young men, Lorent Saleh and Gabriel Valles, both natives of Venezuela, have been held there since September of 2014 on charges of (among other things) inciting violence during protests in 2010.
